Plans – Dog House Tips
- Make sure the house floor is raised a few inches off ground. It only takes a couple of heavy showers before your dog finds himself with an indoor pool in his new house so be sure to keep a few inches between the ground and the floor. This will also keep things nice and cool for him in the summertime, especially if you live in a area with a very warm climate. It also aids hygiene within the house itself and can help you with cleaning.
- When you are installing the roof, be sure to put hinges on the roof for easy cleaning. Surprisingly few plans include this feature which I have found to be a life saver when it comes to keeping the dog house clean and tidy. No need for getting down on your hands and knees and reaching in to get at his bedding, with a hinged roof, the job is quick, easy and over with in seconds. Just be sure to hinge the roof at a sturdy part of the house frame as a slight wind can easily catch the roof, over extending the hinges and doing damage to the walls.
